Parents and community members play an important role in their children's education. A strong partnership between parents and schools enriches the learning experience. There are many formal and informal opportunities for parents to find out about their children's progress at school and school events/activities.
Letters and emails
Schools often communicate about specific issues by way of a personal letter or email. Letters may be sent home with the student so it is a good practice to regularly check your child’s bag. It is also important to keep your contact details, including email addresses, up-to-date.
Discussions and meetings with staff
Parents and carers are encouraged to regularly speak with their child’s class teacher and any staff members on matters relevant to them, such as your child’s learning progress. For simple matters that you wish to discuss, a quick chat may be appropriate. Please be aware of preparation and class commitments of class teachers before school. For more complex or lengthier matters, please request a mutually convenient time to discuss relevant issues and concerns.
Parent-student-teacher meetings
Parent-student-teacher meetings are held twice per year, usually part way through terms 2 and 3 to discuss your child’s progress and share important information. Meeting booking sheets are sent home with students.
Parent-teacher afternoons
Parent-teacher afternoons are held at the start of the year to discuss school and class programs and routines with parents.
Reports on student performance (Report Cards)
All schools provide parents with a formal written report (report card) on their child's performance at least twice a year. The first report card is usually provided at parent-student-teacher meetings part way through the year. The second report card is usually sent home in the last week of school in Term 4.
School annual reports
All schools publish an annual report on the school's website by 30 June each year for the previous year. The information includes:
- distinctive curriculum offerings

- characteristics of the student body
- total number of enrolments
- year levels offered
- staff development priorities
- social climate of the school, including pastoral care programs
- parent, teacher and student satisfaction with the school
- strategies used for involving parents in their child's education
- staff composition and qualifications of teachers
- expenditure on professional development
- average staff attendance.
